Position Overview
The successful candidate will join the Centre for Coastal Protection and Flood Resilience (CFI), where they will contribute to an exciting project aimed at developing a multi-purpose floating breakwater. This innovative system will not only mitigate wave forces but will also integrate renewable energy solutions such as solar, wave, and tidal energy.
Key Responsibilities
As a Research Fellow / Engineer, you will:
- Collaborate with the Principal Investigator, Co-Principal Investigator, and team members to ensure project deliverables are met.
- Utilize Finite Element Method (FEM) software (e.g., Ansys, ABAQUS) to design a robust floating breakwater.
- Apply Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software (e.g., Star CCM+, Fluent) to analyze wave behavior.
- Conduct mooring analysis to design an effective mooring system.
- Perform stability analyses to ensure the seaworthiness of the floating breakwater.
- Engage in fluid-structure interaction studies by coupling FEM and CFD software.
- Conduct experimental tests in a wave basin to assess the feasibility of the design.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including structural engineers, hydrodynamic researchers, and marine scientists.
Ideal Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate should possess:
- A PhD in a related field with a focus on structural engineering, hydrodynamics, or naval architecture.
- Proficiency in wave modeling software, particularly in FEM and CFD.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Research experience in offshore structural design is preferred.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
