The National University of Singapore (NUS) is thrilled to announce an opening for a Research Assistant (also known as Associate, NUS Cities) within the NUS Cities initiative. This position is essential for contributing to the development of sustainable and resilient urban environments, particularly in light of the challenges posed by climate change, aging populations, and other disruptions.
About NUS Cities
NUS Cities is a multidisciplinary platform that focuses on creating liveable and sustainable urban areas. It operates on three core pillars:
- Education: Training future urban planners and practitioners through a systems-based approach, enhanced by case studies from real-world practitioners and academics.
- Research: Addressing major urban challenges and developing a comprehensive Science of Cities.
- Advisory: Providing strategic advice to organizations and cities while partnering with local and international universities and industry stakeholders.
This initiative leverages the diverse expertise within NUS to improve urban planning, governance, and management in high-density, sustainable, and resilient settings.
Key Responsibilities
As a Research Assistant, you will be responsible for:
- Establishing and managing databases to support various research initiatives.
- Interpreting and analyzing data to derive meaningful insights.
- Assisting in the preparation of conference presentations and papers for peer-reviewed journals.
- Collaborating across teams and contributing to multiple research projects simultaneously.
- Supporting Principal Investigators (PIs) in ensuring the successful and timely completion of projects.
- Performing any additional tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, candidates should have:
- A Master’s degree in a relevant discipline.
- A strong interest in urban studies, particularly in one of the following research modules:
- Climate Resilience
- Ageing and Health
- Transportation and Land Use
- Urban Observatory
- Proficiency in data analysis and visualization tools for quantitative research.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Resourcefulness and the ability to work independently.
- Adaptability and the capacity to multitask effectively.
- A commitment to fostering a positive organizational culture and willingness to contribute to a learning environment.
