Position Overview

The FRAME research cluster at the Faculty of Architecture and Arts is seeking a PhD student to join its team. This full-time doctoral position is initially for 2 years, with the possibility of extension for another 2 years after a positive interim evaluation. The research will delve into the use of various media—including photography, video, and drawing—to investigate how these forms can reflect and reshape spatial narratives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct research that integrates theoretical writing and critical thinking with practical image-making.
  • Collaborate with researchers, architects, and artists on innovative projects.
  • Contribute to the academic community by engaging in interdisciplinary research.
  • Develop a PhD proposal that explores methodologies such as montage, assemblage, and critical praxis through visual arts.

Ideal Candidate Profile

To be eligible for this position, applicants should meet the following criteria:

  • Hold a Master’s degree in (interior) architecture, visual arts, or a related field.
  • Demonstrate artistic practice or experience in architectural design through a portfolio.
  • Possess strong research skills and an affinity for the proposed methodologies.
  • Have excellent oral and visual communication skills, with fluency in English (knowledge of Dutch is a plus).
  • Be willing to take on limited teaching responsibilities.
