About the Role

The Research Assistant will play a critical role in a project focused on developing an innovative air-conditioning (AC) and fan system designed to achieve low-energy cooling while maintaining occupant satisfaction. This project emphasizes the synergy between adaptable AC design and advanced fan control strategies.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Performance Evaluation: Supporting the performance evaluation of the innovative air-conditioning system, under the guidance of the Principal Investigator (PI) and Co-Investigators.
  • Installation Oversight: Overseeing the installation and commissioning of systems at two designated sites, ensuring smooth operational coordination.
  • Control Algorithm Development: Assisting in creating control algorithms for the Adaptable Cooling Air Handling Unit to optimize performance.
  • Data Measurement: Conducting physical measurements on both the system and room sides before and after renovations to assess effectiveness.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Engaging in project documentation, report writing, and drafting publications based on collected data.
  • Project Management Support: Assisting the PI in managing the project’s various aspects to ensure timely completion.

Qualifications

Candidates interested in this position should possess the following qualifications:

  • Educational Background: A Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Building Science, Project Management, or related fields.
  • Experience: While 1-2 years of experience is preferred, it is not essential for applicants.
  • Practical Skills: Demonstrated skills in designing, operating, and evaluating air-conditioning systems and their control processes.
  • Communication Skills: Strong communication abilities are necessary for effective project management and liaising with team members and external vendors.
  • Writing Skills: Ability to write and develop drafts for publication based on research findings.
