The National University of Singapore (NUS) is excited to announce a new opening for a Research Fellow within the NUS Cities initiative. This role is crucial for addressing the challenges faced by urban environments as they adapt to climate change, aging populations, and various social and economic disruptions.

About NUS Cities

NUS Cities serves as a multidisciplinary platform designed to foster collaboration among researchers, practitioners, and educators. It focuses on three main pillars:

  1. Education: Training the next generation of urban planners and managers through a systems-based approach, enriched by real-world case studies.
  2. Research: Tackling significant urban challenges while progressively developing a comprehensive Science of Cities.
  3. Advisory: Providing strategic advice to organizations and cities, while establishing partnerships with local and international universities and industry stakeholders.

By leveraging the expertise across NUS, this initiative aims to enhance the planning, management, and governance of high-density, sustainable, and resilient urban settings.

Key Responsibilities

As a Research Fellow, your main responsibilities will include:

  • Establishing and managing large databases to support research initiatives.
  • Interpreting and analyzing data to derive meaningful insights.
  • Generating reports and presentations to communicate findings to relevant stakeholders.
  • Preparing conference presentations and papers for submission to peer-reviewed journals.
  • Collaborating across various teams and contributing to multiple research projects simultaneously.
  • Working closely with Principal Investigators (PIs) to develop new research ideas and ensure project milestones are met.

Qualifications

To be eligible for this position, candidates should possess:

  • A Doctorate degree in a relevant field.
  • A strong interest in urban studies, particularly in one of the following research modules:
    • Climate Resilience
    • Ageing and Health
    • Transportation and Land Use
    • Urban Observatory
  • At least three recent journal papers relevant to the above modules.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and visualization tools for quantitative research.
  • A demonstrated ability to lead research projects, which is advantageous.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Resourcefulness and the ability to adapt and multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment.
