What is the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme?

Key Benefits of the HKPFS

  1. Attractive Stipend: Awardees receive an annual stipend of HK$337,200 (approximately US$43,230), allowing students to focus fully on their research without financial concerns.
  2. Research Travel Allowance: Each fellow is eligible for up to HK$14,000 (around US$1,800) annually for conference and research-related travel, enhancing their academic exposure and networking opportunities.
  3. Tuition Fee Waiver: The fellowship also includes a waiver for tuition fees, which can reach up to HK$190,500 (approximately US$24,430) during the normative study period.
  4. Accommodation Support: Awardees may receive up to HK$100,000 for lodging, including a guaranteed accommodation waiver for the first year, ensuring a comfortable living experience.

Application Process

Important Dates

  • CUHK Application Deadline: December 1, 2024, at 11:59 PM (HKT).

Steps to Apply

  1. Initial Application: Submit an application to the RGC to obtain an HKPFS Reference Number.
  2. Full Application: Complete a full application through CUHK’s online system, using the reference number for verification.
  3. Interview: Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview.
  4. Results Notification: Applicants will be informed of the results in March-April 2025.
