The Department of Architecture at the National University of Singapore (NUS) is seeking applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level in the field of Computational Design. This is an exciting opportunity to join a top-ranked architecture program and contribute to the growing field of computational design.

The Department and Position

The Department of Architecture at NUS is ranked among the top 10 architecture programs in the world and is Asia’s best according to the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings for 2023. The department offers a professionally accredited Master of Architecture program as well as a range of other graduate and undergraduate programs in related fields like urban planning, architectural conservation, and landscape architecture.

The successful candidate for this Assistant Professor position will be expected to develop an active research program in computational design and design computing. This could involve exploring the use of computational methods, tools, and processes to address challenges related to the built environment, especially in the Asian context. The department is particularly interested in applicants who can leverage the design studio as a testbed for these research questions.

In addition to research, the new faculty member will also be responsible for teaching core modules related to design computing, design-to-fabrication, extended reality, or artificial intelligence for design at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Experience in running computational design studios in an interdisciplinary setting is desirable.

Qualifications and Application

Applicants should possess a Ph.D. in Architecture, Computational Design, or a related field, and have the necessary experience and credentials for a full-time appointment at NUS. A proven track record in research, the ability to teach both studio and core modules, and (for more senior positions) strong academic leadership and management skills are required.

To apply, please submit the following documents by March 31, 2024:

A letter of interest
A complete curriculum vitae
A statement of teaching (with a sample syllabus)
A statement of research (including a 3-5 year plan and writing sample)
Contact information for four referees
The expected start date for this position is the end of 2024 or early 2025. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
