The National University of Singapore (NUS) is excited to announce an opening for a Research Fellow specializing in Design Technology. This position is part of a groundbreaking urban landscape optimization project, aimed at integrating advanced design technologies into the urban planning process.
About the Project
Design technology has become an integral part of addressing various design challenges, such as visualization and performance assessment. However, this project aims to elevate design technology beyond mere tools for visualization or assessment. Instead, it seeks to embed these technologies into the design thinking process, allowing for automation and enhanced efficiency in urban landscape design.
Key Responsibilities
As a Research Fellow, you will:
- Develop and implement generative AI models specifically for urban landscape planning and design.
- Interpret and analyze data to inform design processes.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to conduct innovative research.
- Publish findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at academic conferences.
- Work alongside the Principal Investigator (PI) to develop research proposals and grant applications.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- A PhD in relevant fields such as environmental science, GIS, computer science, or similar disciplines.
- Strong knowledge and interest in design technology.
- Proficiency in statistical and programming skills, particularly in Python, MATLAB, and R.
- Experience in spatial analysis and working with large-scale data sets.
- A robust publication record.
- Excellent scientific writing and communication skills.

The anticipated start date for this position is at the end of 2024 or early 2025. This is a one-year appointment, with the possibility of renewal for up to three years based on performance and future career plans.
