The Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment at TU Delft is thrilled to announce a new PhD position as part of the RURALITIC project, a Horizon Europe-funded initiative. This project aims to redefine rural territories across Europe by addressing challenges related to resilience, inclusivity, and sustainability in the wake of socio-economic transitions post-COVID.
About the RURALITIC Project
The RURALITIC project focuses on developing new conceptual frameworks and practical tools to understand and transform rural areas. It aims to tackle pressing issues such as:
- Post-COVID dynamics affecting rural communities.
- Energy transitions that are reshaping rural economies.
- The impact of digitalization on rural livelihoods.
As a PhD candidate, you will be instrumental in creating a new typology of rural territories, allowing for tailored public policies and initiatives that meet the unique needs of these areas.
Key Responsibilities
As a PhD candidate, you will engage in the following:
- Develop a New Typology: Construct a coherent matrix of indicators that differentiates rural areas from a relational and social perspective.
- Future Scenario Analysis: Assist in analyzing historical trends and representations of rural life, exploring and visualizing future scenarios for diverse rural areas.
- Collaboration: Work alongside international academic partners and stakeholders to analyze rural transitions in Europe, contributing to meaningful policy recommendations.
- Research Dissemination: Present your findings in academic journals and conferences, engaging with community partners and policymakers.
Who Should Apply?
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A Master’s degree in Urbanism, Spatial Planning, Geography, or a related discipline.
- Strong foundation in both quantitative and qualitative research methods.
- Good understanding of rural development challenges and policies in Europe.
- Familiarity with spatial typologies and statistical analysis is a plus.
- Excellent communication and academic writing skills in English.
Additionally, experience in conducting research and contributing to publications will be beneficial.
