The National University of Singapore (NUS) is thrilled to announce the opening for a Research Fellow position within the NUS Cities initiative. This role is pivotal in addressing the urgent challenges faced by urban environments, particularly in the context of climate change, aging populations, and technological disruptions.
About NUS Cities
NUS Cities is a dynamic, multidisciplinary platform designed to foster collaboration among researchers, practitioners, and educators. It focuses on three key pillars:
- Education: Training the next generation of urban planners and managers through a systems-based approach, enriched by real-world case studies taught by both academics and practitioners.
- Research: Tackling significant urban challenges and advancing the Science of Cities through comprehensive and systematic studies.
- Advisory: Offering strategic advice to organizations and cities, while partnering with institutions and industries globally.
This initiative leverages the collective expertise of NUS’s various colleges and departments to enhance the planning, governance, and management of high-density, sustainable, and resilient urban areas.
Key Responsibilities
As a Research Fellow, you will be responsible for:
- Establishing and managing large databases to support research projects.
- Interpreting and analyzing data to derive actionable insights.
- Generating reports and presentations for stakeholders to communicate findings effectively.
- Preparing conference presentations and papers for submission to peer-reviewed journals.
- Collaborating across different teams and contributing to multiple research projects simultaneously.
- Working closely with Principal Investigators (PIs) to develop innovative research ideas and ensure timely project completion.
Qualifications
To apply for this position, candidates should meet the following criteria:
- A Doctorate degree in a relevant field.
- A strong interest in urban studies, particularly in one of the following research modules:
- Climate Resilience
- Ageing and Health
- Transportation and Land Use
- Urban Observatory
- At least three recent journal articles relevant to the above modules.
- Proficiency in data analysis and visualization tools for quantitative research.
- A keen interest in urban issues and challenges.
- A strong background with extensive experience in leading research projects is preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Resourcefulness and the ability to adapt and multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment.
